There’s a moment in every healing journey where things pile up..quietly at first, then all at once.
For me, this past week has been one of those moments. Work deadlines. Family stress. Emotional weight from every direction. And before I even realized it, I was holding my breath more than I was exhaling.
Here’s the truth:
Old me would’ve kept pushing until I snapped. I would’ve kept saying yes when I needed to say no, kept holding it together for everyone else, and kept spiraling until the emotional explosion forced me to face what I had ignored.
But healing changes things.
This time, I paused. I acknowledged the feeling before it swallowed me.
And then I did something simple, but powerful – I made a list of every heavy thing I was carrying.
Some of it was mine to hold – especially when it came to my kids. But the rest? I realized I had taken on weight that didn’t belong to me: other people’s problems, emotions, expectations.
And when I saw it on paper, it clicked…this isn’t mine.
Letting go wasn’t immediate, but that awareness shifted everything.
If You’re Feeling Overwhelmed, Start Here:
1. Name the Weight
Write it out. List everything you’re holding right now – tasks, emotions, worries. It doesn’t fix it all, but it helps you see it. That clarity is where healing begins.
2. Ask Yourself: “Is This Mine?”
It’s a simple but life-changing question. If it’s not yours to fix, feel, or carry – it’s okay to put it down. Boundaries don’t mean you don’t care. They mean you care about yourself, too.
3. Give Yourself Credit
If you catch yourself earlier than you used to – that’s growth.
If you let go instead of explode – that’s progress.
Healing isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being aware, and choosing differently when you can.
4. Keep Moving Forward
Some days you’ll carry too much. Some days you’ll catch it mid-spiral. That doesn’t mean you failed. It means you’re human. And the fact that you’re noticing at all? That’s how you know you’re healing.
You’re not meant to carry it all.
And the version of you who finally puts some of that weight down?
That’s not weakness – that’s wisdom.
“I honor what’s mine to carry, and I give myself permission to release what’s not.”
