Release & Reclaim: A Forgiveness Practice for Moving Forward

This week, we’ve unpacked what resentment really is – how it lingers, how it disguises itself, and how it holds you back.
We’ve talked about the grudges we carry toward others, the guilt we carry toward ourselves, and the stories that silently shape our reactions.
Most importantly, we’ve explored how awareness is the first step to letting go – but not the last.
Because insight is powerful.
But release is what sets you free.

🧠 Why Bother Letting Go?

Here’s something most people don’t realize:

Holding onto resentment doesn’t just drain your energy – it affects your health.
Frequent anger and rumination narrow blood-vessel function in as little as 8 minutes – raising long-term risk for heart disease and stroke.
– American Heart Association

Forgiveness, by contrast, lowers blood pressure, improves sleep, and reduces anxiety and depression.
– Johns Hopkins Medicine

Letting go isn’t about excusing harm.
It’s preventative health care – for your body, your mind, and your future.

✍️ Forgiveness Inventory: A Simple Release Worksheet

Take a moment. Go somewhere quiet.
Then use these questions to help name what you’re still carrying.
1. Who is this resentment toward?
(You can include yourself.)
2. What happened?
(Write the facts. No need to justify or explain – just be honest.)
3. How did it impact you?
Emotionally, mentally, physically, spiritually?
4. What did it trigger in you?
(Fear, shame, abandonment, pride, feeling powerless?)
5. What are you still holding onto – and what would releasing it give back to you?
This isn’t for anyone else to read. This is for you to get free.

🕯️ Ritual for Letting Go: A Quiet Act of Release

When you feel ready, you can create a simple letting go ritual:
• Find a slip of paper. Write what you’re releasing.
• Light a candle or sit by an open window.
• Read your words out loud. Then tear the paper, burn it safely, or bury it – symbolically releasing it.
• Say these words, or your own version of them:
“I release what I cannot carry anymore. I forgive not because it was okay, but because I choose peace. I reclaim my power. I choose freedom.”
You can return to this as many times as you need.
Letting go is not a one-time event.
It’s a practice. And every time you choose release, you lighten the load.

💬 Final Reflection Prompts:

• What’s one thing you’re finally ready to set down?
• What part of yourself are you reclaiming by letting this go?
